Come on back to the early 1900's and enjoy the history and ambiance that oozes from the original woodwork of this Lake of Bays cottage! This is told to be the oldest property on the lake and predates the original Bigwin Island Resort. Novels and books in the shelves date back to 1910, and the original Homestead Cabin (now non-existent) dates to the late 1800's! A quiet private lane brings you past the tennis court, to the cottage with it’s dark log exterior and original stone chimney. The property offers the main 3 bedroom cottage, a large sleeping cabin with 4 beds, 1 sleeping bunkie and a daytime “playroom” bunkie! The main cottage is ripe with character and charisma! It has glorious antique furnishings, lighting, nick-knacks, books and artwork. The U-shaped kitchen is simple yet functional with plenty of room to prepare meals, as well as eating for at least 6 people. The dining room gives you space for 8 people at the large antique table. There is additional eating space for 8 in the 4 season sun-room just beyond the dining room. After dinner, relax around the wood fireplace and sip an aperitif from the dry-bar, or just read from one of the many “dated” books from the shelf in the great room. The sunroom is full of pine log and beam accents! It has cozy furniture, eclectic lamps, cool gadgets and accessories. With wall to wall and wrap around picture windows, you can overlook the party deck, the grounds and the water beyond! It has an extra fridge and direct access to the deck.
Now, the “great room” is much more than just great. It has the feel and presence of a grand lounge in a historical Lodge. With perfectly placed “period” furnishings, a wall of antique books, wagon wheel chandeliers, aged and tasteful nick-knacks and worn yet preserved floor rugs. To top it off, there is a solid floor to ceiling stone fireplace, expansive posts, vaulted pine ceilings, and huge bright windows. Again, this room has an exit to the huge party deck complete with HOT TUB! The master bedroom is VERY large with the third wood fireplace, sitting area and a 4pc bathroom. Enjoy the total pine interior and relax in your little hideaway! The lower rec-room has a pool table, couches, chairs and an exit to the ground level exterior at the end of the hall. There are also two other bedrooms. Both rooms are large, comfortable and cozy. One bedroom has 3 beds and the other has two. A 3pc washroom is off of the pool room and has direct access to the sauna!
The red cabin has a very large Muskoka Room as an entry and gives sleeping accommodations for up to 6 people. It has a 4pc washroom, large sitting area, 2 queens and 2 singles. One queen is in the loft which is open to below! All the furnishings and finishing's are typical of the main cabin. The other 2 sleeping cabins to the left of the main cottage offer a total of 3 beds and sleeping for 4 people. One cabin has a 2pc washroom and both have sitting areas. PERFECT for teens! There is also a “play room” bunkie for daytime use behind the cottage. There is no power to the building but would serve as a perfect spot for coloring/painting/reading, etc.
And how about the waterfront? Well, it is as good as it gets on Lake of Bays. To the right of the boathouse there is a hard packed granular sand beach that gives shallow entry into a gradual dropping bottom. You can jump off of the end of the dock or walk along the left side of the property and explore the other sandy section of the shoreline. If water isn't your thing, you can just relax on the large patio and watch the kids play. Heck, take the lengthy walk through the yard and up the drive and to enjoy a game of tennis! You may not have time to explore the expansive property before the end of the week! So maybe you should stay a little longer!
LOCATION: About 2.5 hrs north of Toronto and 15 min's from the town of Huntsville for most all amenities. There is a market, restaurant, tourist info booth, coffee shop, LCBO and other small town amenities available just 2 minutes away.
