If you’ve never vacationed on Georgian Bay, you’re in for a treat! Welcome to this cozy 1,300 sq.ft., 3 bedroom cottage, ideal for an affordable small family getaway. The cottage is slightly elevated on a granite cropping, leaving you with the sensation of hanging over the water from most all rooms, but especially when in the centrally located Muskoka room, with decks on both sides.
The interior of the cottage is well laid out with the open concept kitchen/dining/living room at one end of the cottage and the bedrooms and 4-piece bathroom at the opposite end of the cottage with the Muskoka room in between.
A wall of large windows in the main living spaces (as well as the master bedroom, that has its own walk-out to a deck), provide fabulous tree top views out to Georgian Bay. The picture-perfect backdrop makes prepping meals, dining and relaxing is this main family gathering area a joy. With pine walls, vaulted pine ceilings and comfortable furnishings, there is a feeling of spaciousness while providing a sense of warmth.
From here there is a direct walk-out to a L-shaped deck, an amazing spot to start your days off with your morning coffee, and from here there are steps down to the waterfront and large deck and dock. Being tucked into a smaller protected bay makes the waters calmer, especially in the morning, so be sure to get out and explore with a paddleboat, kayak and windsurf board at your disposal.
Georgian Bay is a bit of a misnomer as it is actually a very large bay in Lake Huron. At 15,000 square kilometres it's not that much smaller than Lake Ontario (18,958 square kilometres), earning it the nickname "the sixth Great Lake." With more than 1,995 kilometres of grayish-pink granite shoreline, it is part of a UNESCO biosphere reserve and a summer freshwater playground for boaters, anglers, and kayakers.
Needless to say, if you rent or bring a boat, there is plenty to see and check out such as the island area of Pointe au Baril with its famous Hole-In-The-Wall beach and Ojibway Club, one of few remaining turn-of-the-century lodges built in that part of Ontario. Another major tourist attraction are shipwrecks, Georgian Bay and Tobermory is known as the “shipwreck capital of Canada”. So much to do and so little time, so what are you waiting for!
