Steeped in family history, the cottage was built in 1962 and was the first lot on that side of the lake. The spot was selected back when there was no road built, so the original family owners trekked in on foot from highway 141 to find the perfect place for their lovingly named "Holiday House".
The interior of the cottage is meticulously maintained with pine floors, walls and ceilings throughout, creating a cottage classic cabin feel. The owner's late father hand-crafted/built most of the furniture, adding to the warm and inviting ambiance.
The open concept dining/living/sitting room will be the main gathering spot for meals and entertainment with plenty of seating for the whole family to spread out and relax. The 2 bedrooms in the cottage will be great for a couple with younger children but more than likely the 2 bunkies will be taken over by the tweens giving them privacy while only being a stone's throw away from the cottage.
As cozy as the cottage is, the great outdoors beckons with so much to offer to both young and old alike. The owners enjoyed years of competitive fun (and sometimes high stakes) that you can partake in as well by playing badminton on the expansive flat back lawn or playing water volleyball for endless refreshing hours in the lake. Swimming out to the rock island is also a great challenging activity to do or take the canoe, paddle boat or kayaks to this surprisingly large gift from mother nature!
At one end of the 200 feet of waterfront is a shallow sandy entry into the lake, where the volleyball net is, and at the other end there is a spacious dock with deep water entry at its end. The dock is the perfect spot to enjoy both sun and shade, sunbathing, swimming or fishing. If you bring or rent a boat, Big Whitefish Lake has a marina and is part of a 3 lake chain with Clear Lake and Little Whitefish Lake that has a public boat launch, so you can get miles of boating in. Another great spot to settle into is the lakeside hammock, the ideal place to drift away, curled up with a good book or a mid-afternoon nap, listening to the soothing sound of the water lapping on the shore.
For a change of pace, go for long walks on the backroads with its abundance of trees, particularly stunning in the fall with the changing colour of the leaves, and you may even spot a deer or other wildlife. Just an 8 minute drive away is an arena, open during the summer, a library and 2 baseball diamonds. For a short day trip, head into the quaint town of Rosseau that holds many hidden treasures, from the old-timey general store, antique shops and the marina with a park, this area has something for everyone. The best part about Rosseau is the Aspen valley wildlife sanctuary, where you can take a guided tour and experience the majesty of cottage country's diverse wildlife in person.
End your days back at the cottage with a BBQ dinner on the deck, roasting marshmallows and campfire cones around the firepit, while taking in a sky full of stars and possible glimpses of the Milky Way or Northern Lights...the best way to end a beautiful day!
