Welcome to “Trillium Point”, the profusion of trilliums on the property each year inspired the cottage name located halfway between Huntsville and Parry Sound!
Nestled on a half-acre of well-treed land, this lovely 1,300 sq. ft., split level, 3 bedroom cottage sits on the beautiful shores of Ahmic Lake. The property is the perfect combination of birch trees, wildflowers, rocky shore and beach.
In 1891, Dr. Howard Kelly – one of the founding fathers of Johns Hopkins Hospital – first canoed to Ahmic Lake. His friend told him it was “the most beautiful lake in Ontario.” Since then, Ahmic Lake cottagers have worked to preserve this area of outstanding natural beauty. They measure time by generations and return each summer to savour the peace and quiet splendour.
With most cottages staying in family hands, the shoreline has been kept intact, making Ahmic a lake with only moderate development and very little boat traffic. Desirable Ahmic Lake is popular for fishing, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, and sailing. It is part of the Magnetawan River waterway in the Almaguin Highlands with over 60 kilometres of exploring by boat.
The interior of the cottage is the epitome of classic cabin charm with pine walls and wood floors throughout. The open concept kitchen/dining/living area has a great layout with the kitchen on the main entry level and the living/dining room a few steps down from it. A wall of large windows frames a picturesque view of the lake from all three rooms. Vaulted ceilings in the main living area make it feel spacious, while the comfortable furnishings and woodstove make it cozy.
The tastefully decorated, lake-facing master bedroom is just off of the living/dining room. Two other bedrooms are on the main level, tucked into the shaded back, making for a great nights sleep.
Start your days with breakfast on the deck. Then head down to the dock to soak up the sunshine from mid-morning to sunset. The cottage is so close to the lake that if parents wanted to get some time out of the sun they could sit on the shaded deck and still keep an eye on the younger kids. The 110 feet of natural shoreline is shallow with hard-packed sand and a small sandy beach in-between the 2 docks, ideal for the kids to safely splash and play. For the older kids the water is about 5 feet deep at the end of the dock, great for jumping in and cooling off. Three kayaks are available for you to use so definitely get out on the water and explore the lake.
During the summer months there are an abundance of special events to enjoy and participate in, including Sunfish Races, a Canadian Dinghy Race, Swim Race, Road Race, Canoe Race, Square Dances, Barbeque and Fishing Contest.
For short day trips head into the historic and picturesque village of Magnetawan. It boasts the oldest, manual operating lock system in Ontario, which connects Ahmic Lake to Lake Cecebe, waterfalls, Canadian Shield, plus the famous Church on the Rock, painted by Casson of the Group of Seven. Fitness buffs can explore the Dam Trail and the Cornelia Levering Trail for hiking and golfers can boat or drive to the 9 hole course at Ahmic Lake Golf Club.
With a west exposure, it is a must to get back to the cottage for a BBQ dinner. Dine on the deck in the screened-in gazebo and then settle into the Muskoka chairs on the dock with after dinner beverages. What better way to end the day than watching glorious sunsets and stargazing at a true Canadian getaway!
"We had a wonderful time at Point Cabin. Thank you for your generous hospitality and informative stories of Ahmic Lake. We enjoyed the beautiful sunsets and peaceful scenery. One of the highlights of our week was watching"mama catfish, daddy catfish and their babies" in the lake for a few days straight. What a fun experience for the kids! We are glad to have been your first renters and hope to be back again soon!"
"Thank you so much Jim and Judy for opening up this cottage to us. We had a very enjoyable and relaxing week! The beach area was perfect for Shael to splash around in and learn to "swim". We also loved sitting in the gazebo to have our meals - such a perfect view of the lake! Thanks so much again for your hospitality."
"We enjoyed our time at your cottage. The views are amazing and it's a relaxing place. Lots of wildlife surrounds the cottage. Your cottage contained everything we need. We appreciated your tip about the boat launch and The Swiss Country House Restaurant - it was delicious. All in all, we can't say enough. Thank you for your hospitality."
"We feel so grateful to have enjoyed your beautiful cottage and lake. Your kindness and hospitality made our stay so much more than we could have hoped for. Our children created wonderful memories here over the week. Swimming, fishing, kayaking and boating....the week seemed to fly by. We will miss having coffee by the lake and dinners in the gazebo. Our family hopes to return one day. Thank you for sharing this beautiful place with us. Ahmic Lake will always hold a special place in our hearts and memories."
"What a fabulous cottage. We have had a great week in such a beautiful spot. The kids loved learning to kayak and play croquet and really enjoyed Old Man's Creek. Thank you so much for your hospitality, we feel you really went above and beyond to make our stay a memorable one! Definitely the best sunset we have seen in a long time. We we hope to be back some day!"
