The Dorset Scenic Lookout Tower is the area’s most iconic landmark. The 30-metre wooden fire tower at the top of a forested hill south of town, managed by the Municipality of Algonquin Highlands, offers a 360-degree panoramic view over the lake-studded landscape. The short hike to reach it passes through old-growth forest with interpretive signage about the region’s ecology. The village carries Robinson’s General Store, which has been operating continuously since 1921 and is one of Ontario’s oldest general stores still in its original building. Dwight, 20 minutes west on Highway 35, provides additional services. The western gate of Algonquin Provincial Park at Highway 60 is approximately 45 minutes east of Dorset via Dwight, making it one of the closest cottage communities to the park.
